The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for creating and executing business development strategies for specific practice areas within a law firm. The role involves identifying opportunities, coordinating attorney teams for new business pitches, and supporting client retention efforts. Key responsibilities include developing annual business plans, managing RFP responses, preparing submissions for industry rankings like Chambers and Legal 500, and creating practice group materials. The BDM tracks and reports on the return on investment (ROI) of business development activities and provides market research to support attorney initiatives. The position requires active participation in networking, industry organizations, and creating high-value business connections for attorneys.
The BDM also oversees team members, providing performance feedback, mentoring, and career development opportunities. The role demands strong leadership, project management, and communication skills. A bachelor’s degree (preferably in marketing or business) is required, with at least seven years of marketing and business development experience, ideally within a law firm.
The position operates in a professional office environment and may occasionally involve minor physical tasks. The annual salary is between $140,000 and $160,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
