Senior Internal Communications Manager
Our client is seeking a Senior Internal Communications Manager to join the Marketing & Business Development team.

Position summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Senior Internal Communications Manager will lead a new era of enhanced internal communications across all of their global firmwide, business and litigation activities and will lead an integrated internal communications team. This leadership position will include people management, guidance and mentorship to their more junior team members across the communications team. The Senior Internal Communications Manager will guide the strategy for effective communications to its worldwide workforce as it grows and evolves, helping meet objectives in delivering on its mission to constantly improve the firm’s working environment, workspace and culture. The role involves successful partnering with marketing, HR, legal talent, technology, user experience and their legal teams across all aspects of workplace development, improvement and innovation, as well as a focus on branding, employee engagement and feedback, firmwide workplace inclusion and leadership goals. Success in this role will lead to delivering on its mission to encourage and celebrate innovation and collaboration throughout the global workforce. Strong internal communications, employee relations, proven leadership and substantive project management and writing skills are critical to success in this role. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Work closely with firm and department leadership teams to create strategies for effective and impactful internal communications supporting core business development objectives, including innovative opportunities to build the firm’s working environment, workspace and culture
  • Lead a team in supporting and amplifying the success of  2,000+ global workforce. Advise on approach for delivering effective and accurate internal communications to diverse audiences
  • Build productive relationships across internal departments (e.g., CN HR, Legal talent, and IS) and act as a liaison to funnel information and uncover new themes and opportunities for innovative internal communications
  • Partner with marketing professionals on key communications initiatives, guidelines, standards and policies
  • Ensure that the firm’s highest editorial standards are consistently maintained
  • Work on tight deadlines with multiple partner groups to gain approval on communications and initiatives to raise awareness for internal audiences
  • Earn and build responsibility and respect as the trusted go-to lead internal communications professional across both business and litigation department leadership teams
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support staff development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:
Required:

  • After orientation exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications, including firm marketing systems software
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 7+ years internal communications experience in the field with 4+ years of management experience in relevant roles.  Proven ability to operate at a more senior level in terms of scope of responsibility, judgement, and independent nature
  • Proven ability to operate at an elevated level in terms of scope of responsibility, judgement and autonomy
  • Project management skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field
  • Law firm and/or professional services environment

  • Ability to lead multiple projects and work with initiative and energy in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong project management and change management background
  • Comprehensive, accurate note-taking and excellent proofreading skills
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, work well under pressure and coordinate sophisticated communications programs with good results
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, including self-set and multi-tasked
  • Assertive, but flexible as to style; must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities and communication styles at all levels in the firm
  • Strong analytic and research skills
  • Exhibit high energy and enthusiasm for law firm communications activities and goals while maintaining a healthy, competitive spirit
  • Experience in earning the trust and respect of high-performing senior professionals in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop professional relationships both internally (with department members, lawyers and firm staff) and externally (with industry/regional associations, etc.)
  • Reliable and punctual

The expected annual pay range for this position is $150,000 – $195,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
