Regional Marketing and Business Development Manager
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Office Managing Partners in Toronto, New York, and Washington DC to evolve strategic plans, including identifying growth areas, developing local brand, and expanding client revenue. Manage action against the plan and be relentless in driving results.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Mintz (people, practices, clients) and identify competitive and market differentiators.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional colleagues to ensure all marketing content and communications, including PR, pitch and recruiting materials, effectively communicate the markets’ key messages.
  • Stay informed and be aware of ongoing client work. Incorporate meaningful “wins” into materials and internal/external communications so we can effectively market and sell our capabilities.
  • Monitor industry and competitor trends and use data to influence decisions impacting BD and recruiting activity.
  • Manage business development pipelines and work collaboratively with attorneys and business development managers to initiate and follow-up on leads, client meetings, pitch preparation, and follow-up. Set a process and use technology to track and report on success.
  • Motivate and influence attorneys to be active in the market; provide 1:1 coaching for members and associates to help them develop and execute on individual plans.
  • Develop relationships with regional trade and community organizations, hosting, sponsoring, and attending their programming to build the Mintz brand in the regional markets.
  • Support integration efforts for all lateral attorneys.
  • Manage local sponsorships, conferences, and memberships (ACC, etc.) and generate ideas for new places to be visible.
  • Manage the planning and execution of internal meetings and events, including retreats, office-specific, and practice-related meetings. Regularly present business development reports and updates
  • Collaborate with key departments across the firm (including diversity, alumni, pricing, IT, etc.) to support the offices and individual client needs.
  • Manage regional marketing budgets, and work with section and office management to ensure strategic spending of those funds.
  • Manage and mentor a Senior Marketing Specialist in NY and collaborate with other colleagues assigned to support the east coast offices.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested.
  • This role requires 60% in office presence; remote work is permissible 40% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7+ years of work experience in business development, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience in regional legal marketing, branding, events, and business development.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with a focus on deadlines and high expectations for attention to detail and quality of work product.
  • Outstanding client service mentality with high-energy and motivated collaborator who is also able to work independently as the regional business development point person for the Mintz east coast offices.
  • Ability to partner with attorneys and develop consultative role/advisory relationship, including the ability to influence behavior. 
  • Ability to manage multiple, often competing, priorities.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others.
  • Ability to see the big picture and operationalize a plan that includes diligence and the ability to execute through to completion.
  • Strong analytical abilities when it comes to studying industry and market trends, data analytics, and client financials.
  • Strong planning, project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use data and technology to drive strategic imperatives.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as with people with varying communications styles.
  • Possess a “hands-on” tactical approach.
  • Creative and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Facilitate teamwork and identify opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp and implement new concepts quickly.
  • Must be initiative-taking, proactive, responsive, a team player, and dedicated to producing the highest quality work product.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to build relationships and expand networks.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communications skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as well as marketing-specific technologies (e.g., CRM).
  • General knowledge of social media platforms.
  • General knowledge of pricing strategy for legal services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a professional manner with colleagues at all levels of the firm.
  • Proven abilities to manage the workload of others and coach, mentor, and develop staff.
  • Outstanding sense of customer service, with demonstrated ability to instill this in others.
  • Ability to travel 20% or more and based on the needs of the position.
