The Intellectual Property (IP) Docketing/Projects Specialist is responsible for supporting the IP team in a Chicago-based law firm by managing the accuracy and integrity of the IP docketing system. Reporting to the IP Docketing Manager, this specialist handles tasks such as processing and saving emails, managing daily docketing activities, proofing entries, and assisting with the submission of USPTO filings. The role includes preparing custom reports, entering status updates, and helping with client intake, file transfers, and periodic audits of electronic and physical files. The specialist must maintain updated client information and assist in ensuring the accuracy of docket data.
Candidates should have at least five years of experience in IP docketing, particularly in trademark and design patent law. A strong understanding of U.S. and international trademark practices is essential, along with basic knowledge of design patent law. Proficiency in the CPi docketing system and Microsoft Office is required, along with excellent communication and time management skills. A BA/BS in a related field is preferred. The specialist must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks from different sources under strict deadlines. This position requires a collaborative team player who is self-motivated and eager to learn.
