The Director of Accounting manages all accounting operations, overseeing functions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, payroll, and collections. This role also includes leading the Accounting team, ensuring strategic direction, and fostering a culture of excellence. Key responsibilities involve guiding team members, reviewing their performance, and managing daily operations. The Director develops and enforces accounting policies and internal controls to maintain compliance and safeguard firm assets while identifying automation and process improvement opportunities.
The Director also manages cash flow, banking relationships, billing, and collections processes to enhance cash flow, creating effective strategies for outstanding fees, including negotiating with clients in financial difficulty. Additionally, responsibilities include generating monthly A/R aging reports, reviewing delinquent accounts, and ensuring accurate fund transfers.
The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience) and significant accounting management experience within the legal industry. Staying updated on accounting standards and best practices is crucial, along with promoting integrity and confidentiality in handling financial information. The Director also assists with special projects as needed.
